Conductor Tõnu Kaljuste

The opening concert of the 10th Nargenfestival summer season takes the listeners to the diverse themes of nature and love in the music of three centuries.

„Cantus Arcticus“, probably one of the most famous works of the Finnish living classic composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, will sound  under Tõnu Kaljuste's conduction as the concert's opening piece accompanied by the recorded birdsong from nearby Arctic Circle and northern Finnish marshes.

Already renowned from previous Nargenfestival seasons Maria Valdma will perform the soprano aria of the 18th century classic Joseph Haydn about miserable love.

The second part of the concert will be dominated by bright nature images, lyrical sounds and even more than that in the earliest symphony of Gustav Mahler, the greatest symphonist of the late 19th century Romanticism.
