'Passio' was created in 1982 and recorded on the 3rd ECM Arvo Pärt's author disc by The Hilliard Ensemble led by Paul Hillier, whose perfect performance changed the composer's opinion about the viability of the piece.

The work was nominated for Grammy's best classical contemporary composition reward.
