07.08Concert Hall and Theatre House of Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EMTA), 7 pm ESTONIAN BALLADS - cancelled!Nargenfestival celebrates the 90th anniversary of the outstanding Estonian composer Veljo Tormis in Tallinn and Tartu by the performance of the landmark work of Estonian music culture – Estonian Ballads – created 40 years ago. The work composed in 1980 and reaching its audience in Estonian Opera House as the cantata ballet production staged by Mai Murdmaa was considered by the composer himself the summary of his life-long work. Tõnu Kaljuste brings this two-part music piece based on Estonian folklore and songs to the concert stage, the creation conducted by him every decade since its premiere in 1980. The new production of 2004 staged jointly with Peeter Jalakas received the Culture Award of the Estonian Republic. The anniversary of Veljo Tormis will also be honoured by the performance of his music by Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir with the soloists and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. The concerts take place in cooperation with Tallinn Philharmonic Society and Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir.
